Barco Ride - BARFO ride is more like it!

Alrighty,

I just have to tell a funny story. So to get to Praia we have to take a boat because the planes are still not flying because of the volcano and there is also a ton of dirt in the air from the sahara desert that has been blown over. So we have been taking the boat a lot. For Leadership conference we went with the Zone Leaders to Praia on a four hour boat ride. I normaly I take medicine to help you not throw up of seasickness but this time I wanted to see if I could do it with out. None of us took it. Dumb, I know.
So the boat starts off pretty smooth but as soon as we get out into the deeper part of the ocean the waves start getting real big, the boat started rocking real crazy, and they started handing out those barf bags real fast. We had decided to sit inside to rest a bit and we saw one of the Elders go into the restroom...then he didnt come out for a long time. FInally we saw the door open a crack but the waves hit the boat again and the door was closed. After a couple more minutes we see him walk out pale as paper, go over to his comp to whisper something, and they both walked out to the deck area. Sister Barbosa started getting a bit sick so we went out to the other deck area to get some fresh sea air. Thats when I started feeling bad. We both closed our eyes and focussed on the wind and on not puking. After a good two hours, some rain, and some pictures we went back inside; victorious over our seasickness. No sign of the elders.
After we finally arive at Praia we saw the two walk in with a couple of barf bags full of...stuff. Both looking like they just died. The poor Elders didnt say anything, just got there stuff and got in the car. Sisters 1, Elders 0.
The leadership council was amazing. We were trained on CH 12 and 13 of PMG. Also we had a wonderful training by sister Mathews on the first lesson. The restoration.
On the boat ride home we all took medicine except for sis Barbosa. It was a good thing we did too because the waves were bigger and they got so bad they splashed up over the deck. Soaking a couple of tourists. But no one threw up this time!
Here in Sao Filipe we have had some really big blessings from the Lord. We ran into a couple of families and contacted them. Later we went to visit an old investigator family and they have a lot of desire to konw more about the church now than they did before. A family of 6! What a blessing.
We also ran into a couple of less actives who have been telling us they miss church and the feeelings that come so we have been working with them. Peoples hearts are really changed and the Lord really does work with people. I will let you know how they all do this next week. We will be marking some dates and interviews for them!
Hope you have a great week!

New mailing address for letters!!

Soooo I just found out that in addition to the pouch address which is rather complicated, you can also mail letters to the mission home!!

I know Sister Goss would love a few written letters.  Hooray for letters to the mission home address!

Taylor's Letter this week:

! I didn't even know we had an address for the mission home. What is it!!??? I've been sending all my friends my pouch mail address.  Hahaa, shoot.

Well for new years here everyone just parties until they drop. Seriously. We had music play from 8 at night until we woke up at 6:30am. Also here the party isn't just new years. It is until kings day on the 6th of January. Dang, these cape verdians do like them parties.

New Years was pretty much a normal day for us. Just extra goal setting sessions. It was weired setting goals this year. Half of them will be for the msision and the other half will be for...home.... WEIRED! Ill be home in six months mom. SIx months. Um I'm just going to try and forget that until I'm on the plane ride home. Too many emotions and stress. But I do have a question. When do I need to register for classes for BYU? Is that spring or summer? Ai. This is giving me butterflies... so... chang of subject - How is the house coming along? Any changes besides the new shutters outside? Are the kids still enjoying thier candy stash and christmas presents? I didnt ask but what did you get for Christmas?

Also maybe the reason I havent been getting any letters is because we both have been giving people a pouch address ;) Haha whoops!

Love you!

Christmas!!

Alright well I have been all over cape verde this week. SO sorry if my email is a little all over the place.

Sao Vicente had been amazing and we love the people there so much. We did a visit to a less active 30 minutes away in the middle of nowhere. Welll actually it was next door to a pig farm so that was encouraging, but she is a wonderful member who was married and baptized but her husband ditched his baptism and has been abusing her. We had a really great lesson on how God will help those who keep to the faith and continue to do what is right. She was very grateful for our visit and told us that she would come to the activites and church. She has such a wonderful testimony of the truth and wont trade it for anything.

Aright so earlier in the week we were in a tripla with Sis G because she was waiting for a mini missionary to come and be with her. But then we got a call at 10pm from president on Thursday and he told us we would be leaving at 5:45am the next day for Praia...geez. So packed up all of our stuff and got a few moments of sleep and headed to the airport and to Praia.

When we arived  we headed to the sisters house to rest and the APs picked us up to go catch the boat. When we got to the port ALL of the tickets were sold out. So you know what we did? We walked right on out there to the boat with money and we started asking if we could just stand and let all of the passengers with tickets sit in their seats. It probably would have worked but 20 other people had the same idea. So we didn't get on that day. SO the next day rolls around and we try the same thing (we are just tryign to get there before Christmas). And they don't let us on. The third day the assistants went to the office of the boat and talked to one of the workers and they let us buy tickets for Tuesday. YAY!!!! So I will be spending Christmas in my own area, with all of the members!

Also this transfer President sent two Elders to Ponto Verde to make it an area, so that was very exciting for us but now it isn't part of our area. We willl miss the people there but we are excited for them to get their own meetings and things like that.

We now have the area of Sao Filipe 2 all to ourselves...its so huge but we are very excited to work there again.

I hope you all have a very very Merry Christmas!!!!! I love you alll so much.

Alright so earlier in the week we finally got to Sao Filipe and oh how happy we were. We passed a wonderful Christmas together singing and talking to everyone we passed. After each song we gave away a pass along card with Christ on it and asked them to remember the true gift of Christmas. It was wonderful talking to people during that time. Then we got so skype family which is always wonderful. It was fun seeing the reaction of my comp seeing her family for the last time before she goes home. She has been a wonderful example to me and has taught me soo much.

This week we have made a lot of plans to teach all of the Recent Converts of this year. Our President gave us a list of everyone baptized in our area this year, with these people we will be teaching alll of the lessons again. We have 89 Recent Converts and we will be trying to teach at least half of them everything by the end of January. Half of those would be 177 lessons. It is a lot of work but we are willing to do what it takes.

We have been seeing a lot of miracles during the season of Christmas with people being more open to the gospel and wanting to make a change in their lives for this new year. We have met quite a few people who are so ready to receive the truth.

As for us and the new year; Sister B and I have been making goals as to what we want to accomplish in these next 12 months. I am so excite to have a new year to be a little bit better. I love you all!
