6 Months - Only a Year Left :(

I just cant believe how time has flown by. I only have a year left :( But all is well here in Boa Vista. The tourists are still as red as ever, and the Africans are still rocking the creole.

This week our new mission president came to do interviews and to see how the work is coming along. Pres Mathews and his wife are perfect for this mission. They used to be senior missionaries here about 7 months ago, and now they have been called to lead the mission. Pres Mathews is a temple sealer for the Houston, Texas Temple and he is such a great man. I am excited to work with him here.  He really is pushing the conversion of the people here more than the baptisms, and he wants us to work on contacting more daily. So that is what we have been trying to do.

We were told that we don't knock on doors here, we only use references and street contacting. So we have been street contacting more if our lessons fall. We have been shut down a lot,  but I know that its a seed planted.

One of our lessons this week was with that lady I., I cant remember if I talked about her before, but we have started teachign her boyfriend. As of right now he doesn't attend Catholic chruch because he didn't like how they worship all the saints. We shared the restoration with him and I think it touched him. I hope that with time he will be able to accept the gospel, get married, and then he and I. can be baptized!

Another inspiring lesson this week was with a man named A. . We were teaching with Sister M. and were sharing the 3rd lesson with this man (we hadn't talked to him in 3 weeks because of his work schedule). After we had a strong spritual lesson Sister M. shared that when she was little she was looking for happiness, she found true lasting happiness in this gospel. A. went on to say that he feels the power of the book of mormon. He feels somthing so much different inside of him when we come and visit and he really wants that. It was a really touching moment for me, to help provide something more significant in a persons life than just worldy happiness. He came to church the following day and really enjoyed it. I am excited for him, he has finally found Light.

All in all, I love the mission. I am honestly sad that is is already 1/3 of the way over. I hope I can accomplish what I need to in Cape Verde, to fullfill the Lords will.

I love you all so much! Keep hope and faith.
Have a great week!

With lots of love,

New References & The Sand Dunes

This week...
We found a lot of new investigators which was seriously great. We needed some great new people.
One of the new references we got was a lady named I. . She lives with her boyfriend and she has been learning about the church and taking lessons since November. We found her just this week but she has all the lessons and wants to get baptised. The only issue is with her boyfriend. She knows they need to do something different so that she can keep all the commandments but he isn't so excited. He hasn't had the desire to sit with us the last two times we talked, but we have been giving I. the pamphlets to read with him and we are trying to get her to pray with him if this is the right thing for them to be doing. I hope that he can be touched by the spirit here soon. I. has such a deep love for the gospel and is so ready to make this step to be baptised.
We have also been teaching, a sister of one of our most recent converts, B. She is a little slower at reading understanding portuguese (she only speaks straight up creole), but she has a great heart and is progressing well. Her brother T. (the recent convert) is one of the best members and has the purest heart. He has been helping out with B. a lot. They prayed together about the church and she told us that she got an answer that it was true! They are growing together. It is so great to see members help others find the truth of the gospel.

For Pday today we went to the sand dunes and had a BBQ with our branch pres. and the Elders. It was a lot of fun and it was good to get to know the president better. He has been doing a great job with the branch, and next week we will start haveing three hr church! With all the meetings for all the ages (before it was 2 hrs cause the branch was so small). This little area is growing quickly. I know the Lord has just paved the way for this place to grow in the gospel and I know that this is His work.
I love you all and wish you all the best!

July 4th feast & Plenty of People to Contact

"Mom we are seriously two blocks from this beach. We need to come back and visit ok? ;) "

Fourth of July was so great! My comp is pretty much a pro cook so we eat good ;) For our lunch on the 4th we had the most american meal we could make here in Cabo Verde. Hamburgers, fries, jello, grapes, homemade chocolate doughnuts.

Week one of Transfer 4...
TIme is going by way too fast :(

Alrighty so this area is the best. Since the church is so new here we find prepared people all the time who progress and stay so strong. All the memebers here are so converted and willing to do anything for the ward which has been such a blessing and such a great example to me over the past few weeks.
This saturday we had a goal to help the whole ward fast for strengthened testimonies and to find those who need the gospel in their lives. We had an intergration night on Saturday where we played games and ate, we then prayed together to start the fast. We also challenged them all to bear their testimonies the next day during sacrament meeting. That sunday was incredible. Almost everysingle member got up and shared a short but strong testimony of what they knew to be true. It was so touching to see all these great members, who havent even been members for over a year, get up and share what they felt and experienced. That sunday night everyone brought a plate of food to share and we broke the fast together. It was on of the best moments of my mission. The spirit was so strong and I knew that everyone could feel the power of what fasting adn prayer could really do.
We taught this lady named S this week. She has been attending other churches looking for how to follow Christ. I couldn't help but smile as she said that. As we taught the first lesson to her the spirit just grew stronger and stronger. She accepted everything we talked about and was excited to pray, read the book of Mormon, and ponder about what we had said. I love this work so much. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to help with work of the Lord.
I love you all so much! Have a great week!

Except from my letter:
"The new area is the bomb! Love it so much.  We have so many people we can talk to here which is nice, cause in the other area it was small with few people so we knew close to everyone. WE have AC IN OUR HOUSE!!!!!!! Pai Celestial is really looking out for me right now :) Only problem is we have a few cockroaches here and there in the kitchen but they are the medium sized ones not the chunky large ones. Count your blessings.
I love you mom! Tell everyone I love them so much and I cant wait to hear about next week."

New Area - Boa Vista

Ok, this place is BEAUTIFUL. When the picture thing works out I will send a couple.
The church here is really new so we have a branch of 40-50 people with a branch president that got married 2 weeks ago who got off his mission 2 years ago.  Real young. But it is cool to see how the church starts and grows into a ward. The members here have really great testimonies and I am exicted to work with them. There are just us two sisters and two elders that work on this island, that means lots and lots of people to find and talk to! :)
Sister T is great (she is a friend of Maddie's -roommate in college I think)! We have been getting along well. Teaching is getting a little bit easier day by day now that I am finaly getting the basics down.
We taugh a lot of investigators this week. We found this family on Tuesday. They have a little 6 month old boy, and I feel like the gospel could really bless thier lives. We taught the restoration and BofM and they seemed really interested. I find that the older you get on the mission the more you see poeple for who they can become rather than who they are in the moment. I really hope this family takes hold of this gospel. They could be so happy!
Since I got transfered two weeks before normal transfers there is a posibility that my comp could be transfered this week and I would have to lead the area. It freaks me out a little, but I know that if thats what the Lord wants thats what I'll do. There is a saying here in Cape Verde "no stress"...lies. Txeo (creole for LOTS) stress! But there is a loving Heavenly Father to help you every step of the way.
Have a great week! Love you!
